After turning the vehicle off, the ignition key remained stuck in the ignition switch. The failure would occur intermittently. Fuel injector cleaning did not fix this, so I took the car to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist who stated that the failure was not due to the transmission. I was told to file a complaint, because so many individuals who by these particular vehicles all have the same problem especially if you purchased a Equinox between 2006 and 2009. I loss the ability to drive my car safely to the dealership I purchased it at in Colorado.
All the instrument panel lights illuminated and flickered, and the vehicle would stall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. In the few days after this work was done I could still hear the fan running while driving and once I parked it would run for a while. Three months later in October of 2013 my car started over heating and cutting power off to the engine while driving the speed limit on 95. The one time they were supoose to fix something they had the car for two days and rhey put tape all over the hoses ro stop the leaks. I requested for them to take the car back, they refused.
The second time was right in the middle of a busy 4 way stop. One month later in December, my car would shut off on me while driving. Naturally, he decided not to take the dealer's asking price for repair and took his car to the garage he frequents and got the spark plugs replaced. Not wanting to have to return to the garage any time soon, I agreed to have all of the spark plugs replaced. The contact had to open the windows to air out the vehicle cabin.
The bulbs for the hazard lights were replaced, but the failure recurred one week later. He has already gone to the dealer and their diagnosis was, like yourself, that a couple of cylinders were misfiring which seems to be a common problem around the internet for these vehicles. The contact stated that the very first day he took the vehicle home, it broke down. Further inspection revealed the fuel pump was leaking gasoline, about six inches from the muffler. I have been looking on line and have found this to be a serious problem for thousands of other Chevy Equinox owners! The failure mileage was 24,000 and current mileage was 50,000. When my car has shut off on me over 100 times ihave cut multiple drivers off every time trying to make it to the shoulder. While operating the vehicle, the check engine and stabilitrak sensor indicators would randomly illuminate and the vehicle's speed suddenly decreased.
The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that there were no current failures. My car hesitates almost every time when going up a hill what I mean when I go up the hill it is like my car is going to shut off. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel pump was leaking and was dripping onto the exhaust pipe, causing smoke to escape from the hood of the vehicle. Two weeks ago we discovered that the motor mount is broke. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. I have had continual repairs on the electrical rear lights and the belt tensioner, but this next repair is by far the worst.
The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000. When the vehicle was looked at where I pulled over there was minimal oil in the vehicle and it had blow coolant all over the driver side wheel well from what looked like the overflow tube. The failure mileage was 200,000. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist.
Several days later we was told that a piece of griddle had rubbed a hole into radiator and engine would need to be replace. While driving 10 mph and accelerating, there was an abnormal gushing water noise exerting from the dashboard area. I have just discovered that Chevy has recalled other vehicles with the same problem. The failure mileage was 73,000. This is a manufacturer defect and the vehicles should be recalled. Ever since then I had problems.
Then they repo it when I wqsnt late on my payemnt because I said I want it fixed sinxe it was sols that way or I will file a compalint. As a thoughtful vehicle owner, I take precautions to preserve the life of my vehicle through regular maintenance and covered storage from natural elements. He was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle misfired with a reduction of engine power. My Father would appreciate it greatly and in retrospect, myself as well, as our family will be taking our annual 1500km road trip to east coast for fishing and this would really be a hamper to our vacation. I'm just upset that this is happening to several others and they just accepted it and didn't complain!!!! When driving, the smell of gas circulated into the air conditioning system penetrating the inside of the car.
But several have told me they had worked on several with same problem, said Equinox are known for this! We were told that the radiator was not part of the warranty nor was the sway bar; only the engine. The vehicle was diagnosed; however, the details were unavailable. Replacing spark plugs appears to have been a band aid on a gaping wound at this point, but it almost certainly will need to be done again before long. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 212,998. So it's back to the dealer again. The dealership that I use worked on it and replaced the temp control and thermostat and did a complete oil change.
