When you are done troubleshooting, remove the screwdriver and replace the boot. Or you may just be struggling to keep it highway-approved. One posibility is you need a better ground from your altanator to your regulator. What are the other plugs for? I think on your car the fuel pump relay would be on the passenger side fender well on the metal bracket that also holds the voltage regulator. A cheapy fuel pressure gauge tee'd into the rail works best. But then again, I'm pretty sure its because our manuals don't update like Nissan's do over in their shops. The only 6 bladed relays they have display the terminals in varying patterns some blades perpendicular to others.
I have gave up so your help is much appreciated. Some of our top Fuel Injection Relay product brands are. One more thing, I think your fuel pump is the issue, but don't just go buy one, diagnois it. And we are not just Z parts! I have a fuel injection problem. Look at the external Voltage Regulators, too but of course thats more than just Nissan doing it there. Backprobe the electrical connector in the injector, to make sure is is getting battery power, and then check the other wire to make sure the computer is switching it on, and off.
I touched each pin with one lead and the other to a good ground. The fuel injection wiring harness is a whole separate harness from the rest of the cars wiring. Since 1919, Standard Motor Products has engineered a full line of engine management products, including ignition parts, sensors and on-board computers. You can check them all that way. Transit times vary based on where the order is being shipped to and begin the day the order leaves our warehouse.
Honestly, I can't say if it works. Or you can go to the autoparts store and buy a noid light. However, I have never worked on any 280Z besides a 78, so I'm not positive. One thing you can do is disconnect a fuel line somewhere before the regulator and put it in a bucket and crank it over. We appreciate your business and look forward to providing you with all of your Z car parts for many years to come. Getting a new battery helps because the system needs full voltage to function properly. Its just a little bit harder for us to get our hands on them.
It means that you have the flexibility to find the part that works for your Z, and your budget. I touched each pin with one lead and the other to a good ground. The fuel pump runs when cranking. Our personal attention and Z Car knowledge is unbeatable. From what I've seen here, not so much.
These things weren't know for great wiring thirty years ago when they were new, and thirty years hasn't helped. There might be a fuse just for the injectors so check all that too. This is especially true for fuel injectors. Want to take your old Z and give it a new life? Today i pulled the dash off, and found a silver cylindrical relay looking thing right above the hood popper. Ok think i figure out what was wrong. You can also put timing light on rest of wires to see if it flashes.
I drained again and refilled with 93 octane and it fired right up. To check if the injectors are firing you can hold a screwdriver to them, tip against the body of the injector and your ear to the handle and listen for a click click click. I'd guess bad fuel pump. I like my car needs work. Originally i found out the fuel pump was running, so after i could not find any relays, i just bypassed it to a switched 12v source to see if i could get it to run.
Hopefully anyone else having problems with their old ign relay will benefit from this. The connectors are the real weak link. Since 1919, Standard Motor Products has engineered a full line of engine management products, including ignition parts, sensors and on-board computers. This new one, as you can see, has a black jumper wire connecting the two relays which then leads out to an actual ground wire with an eye. We only use brand new, unused fuel injectors and do not recommend rebuilt partially new injectors.
