. Deltak he said no room at the starter motor. Just be aware that if your car sees a lot of stop start driving, your water pump and alternator will be under-driven. Ive used this method more times than I can count. Your best bet is to get a good quality aftermarket balancer Power Bond for example. A Must Have for engine swaps or upgrading the balancer! I can't read the head stamp and the bolt is rough cast like a 99cent bolt from the hardware store. Then thread in your new bolt and tighten to 37 or whatever it is.

What happens if I bust some teeth off the ring gear?? Raise the vehicle with a floor jack, and safely support it on jack stands. Thanks Steve don't ask that, normally the flywheel tool holds a few teeth at once which is much safer. The people at Toyota service said it may have had excessive loktite put on when the engine was built as it usually only takes 1 or 2 goes using the starter motor to crack it. It has bolt holes for the puller, I already tried to do that but bent the bolt.
It looks nothing like a machined bolt as shown in the listing. There definitely was a fair bit of room there to play around with the thermo fans removed, so in hindsight I think there would be no problems in keeping them there. Can anyone in Melbourne come over and help on the weekend??? Its like using the stock bolt but gets you full thread engagement so you dont have to worry about tearing the threads out of the crank. The heat will only help you for a second. Locktite doesn't like heat, if that is the problem. Hey Souljah, I was told to use an oxy on it but I don't have one at home. Im not repsonsible if you bend a valve or a piston if you use this method. I wouldn't use heat as the risk of over heating is possible. I just use washers, and the bolt to walk the balancer on.

Any damage to the vehicle or injury resulting from usage of these materials is 100% the users responsibility. Connect the cooler for the power steering fluid, if your vehicle is so equipped. That way you will only be paying for postage, as well as suffering a bit of a loss when you sell the thing. Does anyone know of something to heat the bolt with? You can't use a regular socket as you will probably break it. Disconnect the starter motor with a socket wrench to access the crankshaft.
Cheers Mark Hi Mark, That would be mad, but would it fit in the engine bay?? I also would not risk using a piston to lock the motor. In my case, I opted not to use an under-drive balancer, as my electrical system is alreay heavily loaded, and I commute daily in one of the largest carparks in Australia Yay for Sydney. So there is lots of stuff missing, and some descriptions that are a bit meh. Ok so now I am taking the sump off to try and lock the crank up as getting to the starter motor is almost impossible. I'm returning it I can't take the risk if my balancer coming off while I'm driving ,the bolt snapping or stripping if I attempt to install. The balancer is not designed to get too hot and over heating it can cause the bonded rubber to separate. I needed to flush my radiator fluid, so I took this as the opportunity to drain and flush the fluid after the balancer swap. Just had a quick look and can't even get to the starter motor as it is under the inlet manifold.
